What kind of stress cracks? What type of metal? What Gauge? I use a mig/tig and that covers most things. It all depends on what you want to do with it. Think ahead also, if you are going to spend the money make sure it will be good enough for any future projects.

You should be fine with any small wirefeed welder for that kind of stuff.

my dad has a Licoln thats a bit bigger than the one LARP posted a pic of. I have welded body pannels back together with it. But it has enough penetration to weld up 3/8".

yeah well if you do buy one like someone suggested if you have enough dough splurge on a 250 amp you can turn it down for small welding jobs

has anyone used an airco

those are great I used one with a miller feeder and the new miller gun that runs 250 bones man that is a sweet setup

man i need to stop being a post whore its just been so long since i ve been on here lol

I need to do a bunch of welding these are the points that need metal patching.

lower corners of the cab betwwen the windshield/cowl
floor pans both sides
patch or replace rocker panels
lower front of cab thats coverd by the fender looks like a bump
and lower part of radiator support
or should i just look at switching cabs

make sure you switch vin tags if you do get a new body

as for a welder you can build a gas driven one with your pickup using an alternator 1or2 batteries a couple other parts for around 200-300 bucks with the leads yeah its real interesting you can get a good amount of amps and volts out of this setup high frequency welding for good penetration but i think you can only use this about 2-3 hrs at a time or the alternator will blow a fuse to it or burn it up it states that its a 100% duty cycle which

but yeah search it up under yahoo as onboard welder i m contimplating on doing it myself as opposed to the premier power welder setup which is nicely done well just a thought

I was wondering if anyone has used one of these electric things will it work to weld small patches? Like the antenea hole in the fender and small work around the winshileld channels? dont want to over buy but I want the thing to work. This is what is slowing me down. Would like to get the body started so I can move on.
