So im adjusting the valves on the LUV today. Im putting the valve cover back on and notice something at the base of the carb. Its a missing vacuum plug. So i got to plug it off and the engine almost dies. Now im thinking great, that means that plug has been missing since the last time i had carb issues in December. So yeah, keep an eye on your vacuum plugs guys

And Homer says "DOHH!!!"

I got one....
On my 80 with a new rebuilt eng. , I'm carb adjusting and setting timing, things like that. All of a sudden the eng. makes a weird sound and stops. I new it was major so I took off the valve cover and found that I NEVER PUT THE CAM GEAR BOLT IN!!!!!
I got SO lucky. The chain tensioner held the chain on, it didn't even jump a tooth. No bent valves or anything. I just lined it back up with the cam and Loc Tite-ed it on there this time! All is good. I had put about 6 miles on it going around the block and such with no bolt in it. I'm am so lucky it fell off at about 1000 RPM in the driveway, and not at 4000 RPM on my way to work.
