I picked up my 327 on Saturday. It is from a Monte Carlo (i'm unsure of the year, but 1960 something. I was told it has camel hump heads, but I don't remember the number on the heads, so I can't look it up. I'm gettin' ready to drive down to where my engine and LUV are to unload it. When I get back, I'll look up what kind of heads they are.

I was told that the engine ran when pulled, and when the heads were taken off, then the engine sat in the garage for 1 year with the heads off. Is there any way I can tell if the short block is good to go other than assembling the engine and tryin' to fire her up?

Thanks
-Brandon

Good luck.
There is another way... Quite the opposite in fact. Tear it completely down and inspect everything, mike everything, have the block magnufluxed...

Sometimes with good information you can trust, you can just pull the bearings and do a visual of the bearings. If they show any wear, replace them. Not that it is out is the best time to spend a few bucks to get it right before you put it back in.. If it was me I would at least have the block boiled out and magnafluxed to look for any cracks. That way you are sure it's right. Align bore the crank and cam to make certain the crank is not in any kind if bind, and can get your pistons to tdc. When you put it back together you will have an engine that should run very well.
Last but not least you can go ahead and stick it in if you are feeling lucky, or have some real good information you trust.
