Ok im 17 and i just got my luv almost on the road, but i have came to the decision that im swapin motors first... Tho i am 17, I am very car literate, but i just have a cuple luv specific questions.... I have a 400+ HP 283, and im puttin a TH350 with a 3000 stall behind it... Now my motor is built about as good as you can get without a supercharger, but this means it has to breathe.... i have a huge cam in her, and i want to know about headers... I have a set of block huggers, but some say that even block huggers dont work... I have a high torque mini starter so that frees up space on the passenger side, where the exhaust will be piped... Also i am having all custom exhaust done on it so i just need to know if the block huggers will work, and if you guys think this will still give me enough breathing... o and by the way i am having dual 2.5in exhaust all the way back... so just give me some input

block huggers will work fine for 400hp. its not the best but it will do. I dynoed one of my old motors at 575hp on 1 5/8" hooker regular 1 5/8" comp headers but I'd say 450+ is about the mark where you want to get into big tube, equal length headers. If I were you i would spend the extra $$$ and get some Sanderson 1 3/4" primary block huggers. better yet just get the hooker V8 LUV conversion super comps they are 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 LT headers.

I agree with LUVSADRAG, grab some of the conversion headers and let that bitch breathe! 8) Full Length Tube Size 1.75" x 34", Collector Size 3", Collector Length 10".

I have a set of 1 5/8" block huggers on my 383, motor made 490hp with 1 3/4" full length dyno headers, I'm guessin its loosing around 10-20hp, and 30-40tq with the huggers, full length will make way more in the mid range. Also for a 283 I'd go 1 5/8" full length if you can get some.

And I made that one pathetic pass...

Well went back 2 weeks ago, when we had the cool weather and made some low 11 sec passes with good mph, Luv ran better then I expected, but so did everyone elses car with the awsome air :D

Hope to see your Luv out there one day.
