Colin is ready to throw a V-6 Buick into his luv truck and i have a question for anyone with a long wheelbase truck that has a V motor. Was it nessesary to beef up the carrier bearing to handle the extra power? I haven't looked at one to study it and i'd hate to see a driveline go bad. The driveline will have to be upgraded to adapt to the trans but will the carrier bearing assy need to be upgraded also? Can it be adapted to the upgraded driveline or will it have to be changed out?

he could probably do away with the carrier bearing and put in a longer 1 piece out of a full size pickup i think the drive lines in the short bed full size models are quite a bit longer than what our short bed drive lines. he might look and see if one of those would be long enough. later

My brother put my first v-6 in his longbed LUV (I was to chicken to try it first!!) and he had a one piece driveshaft made. Never had any problems with the shaft. The motor and tranny was a different story though!!

Tilted...Did your brother have problems installing the motor and trans or did he have problems running with that motor in general?

No, no problems on the install. Just keeping it running. He got one of the tranny cooler lines to close to something sharp and cut the line and hurt the tranny a little and then about 500 miles later the motor went. Then so did the truck! The driveshaft was about the only things he didn't have a problem with! :( But I got to give him props, he did all this while in high school back in the late 80's making about $4.00 an hour.

WOW! Was that your brothers truck? Boy, that looked very sharp! I'll bet he misses that ride.

Yea, it was in really good condition, unlike mine was. I don't think he misses it as all the problems he had after the V-6 conversion and I don't think I have ever heard him mention it since he got rid of it.
