I was thinking about bobbing my bed as well (being that the back half is already almost rusted off :? ), but what does the dovetailing do.
Does it just blend it into the frame?

Yeah, a dovetail looks something like this:

Front
______
........
........
........
........
........
\......../
.\....../

rear

I had to look it up myself actually. I've thought about a bed bob, but not sure I'd dovetail. Around here they like to ticket for tire sticking out of the wheel well and no mudflaps, and anything I build is going to be streetable. I won't do a tow rig.

just make removable mudflaps, that's what i'm gonna do, it'll be fairly street legal ( i can't assure full legalness  ) but when you hit the trails take 'em off. i figure i'm going to have to make them as it is with my fullwidth stuff on it, so why not do this now while the bed is still straight

just keep in mind there are advantages and disadvantages to running with no bed, both have to do with weight

yeah, thats going to be a challenge. Ill be realy light but ill have a rediculouse amount of power. A stock 77 425 cad makes like 200hp@3000rpm and 320lb ft@1400rpm. So i think im going to be over powered for my chasis to begin whith, so im trying to make it so light that i wont ever need to get into the throttle much. But im mostly building it for the mud boggs back home so light weight whith lots of power will kick ass. That and my tow vehicle is just a 64 F250 so...

It looks good Boonie Buster, but what are you going to do about the leaf mount things! are you going to just leave them alone.

You've got the right idea with the BOBBed bed, however, why don't you take it all the way? Cut off the frame rails behind the rear hangers, and build yer self a flat bed? No body to rinkle, you have a place for tools, coolers, spare tires, kids, or whatever. Use your imagination! 8)

What'cha think??? :?:

i dovetailed it too, so it shouldn't be an issue as far as crinkling the body. and the frame rails have been chopped down.(prolly too far actually) that's ok though, 3/4 elliptical is in the works :D
