i have a b&m shifter (star shifter) in my v8 luv what would cause the transmission to shift automaticly into 2nd gear while the shifter is in the ratchet section in 1st gear, the trany fluid is good and i think the linkage is good does anyone know what could cause this?

the tranny should only manual shift when you have a shift kit... do you have a shift kit installed in your tranny?

I would guess that even when the shifter is showing first gear the adjustment on the cable is only letting it go to second on the trans.

I had this problem with my 700R4. Turns out that my L-bracket on the trans was loose enough that it would rotate slightly instead of pulling the trans into low. The nut was tight, but it was bottomed out against the shoulder of the shifting shaft coming out of the trans, not against the L-bracket. A washer fixed the problem for me. Basically the B&M L-bracket was thinner than the shoulder on the shifting shaft.
