Hey luv truckers! like i said in past post's. I have never done a clutch before and am getting started. I got the flywheel and the clutch bolted to the motor, i lifted and installed the tranny and bolted it down... well i remember the clutchfork part that is sticking out of the tranny was really stiff and now that i have reinstalled the tranny it is sloppy and loose. how do i go about installing the tranny to the motor while making the fork work??? thanks guy's!

what parts if any did you mix and match here? Flywheel and all the clutch parts from the 80 4x4 with the same trans? New clutch kit parts?

Also is the spring on the fork on the outside of the trans still there?

i did not mix any parts really? i removed the blown motor and tranny from my 80 and pulled the flywheel and clutch off, then i bolted up a 76 or 77 luv motor to my 80 flywheel/clutch/tranny. The spring is not on the tranny. i removed the spring before i pulled the cable off and the fork was real tight...

So you have all the parts from the flywheel on back from the 80 on there, all the same, and it is still loose? Strange stuff. Maybe it was sorta stuck before and now the throwout is sliding free like it should be. I can't remember exactly how mine felt last time I put a clutch back together. I just cleaned up the inside of the bell on my trooper 5spd (packed with grease/crud) with hot pressure washer and it definitely changed the feel of the fork. If you cleaned yours up that might account for some of it too.

It should only really move forward/back, not so much side to side or up/down. If it wiggles a lot in the directions it wouldn't normally move then I'd worry about it some. Could be the springs that hold the fork to the throwout bearing popped loose or something.

I have found my problum. the fork still will engage the clutch but it has a little back and forth play, untill you push it forward. it was not like this before but i think it will work the way it is. well it had better becaulse i put the new motor in the truck already!!! Im almost ready to start it, just got the driveline and the electric stuff. easy as pie... i did however bust a sending unit on the tranny reinstalling it oh well! i got a whole spare tranny so i dont really care


OH ya i got my steering dampener on today too. looks and works great but i want to get a new absorber for it... a nice matching skyjacker thanks for posting reply's.

Funny, I smashed one of the switches on my 5 spd too when I was hauling it to/from the car wash.

Sounds like things just loosened up a bit with all the moving around, hopefully you won't have any problems with it.

NO nothing was loose i was just in a rush to pop the motor back in i did not go at the extream angle that i was supposed to, so i had the motor sidwayz in the bay lowering and pushing. well i dident break the unit i just ripped the wires rite off!!! that sending unit is for the reverse lights rite???

On an 80 4wd I think there are three switches. One for reverse lights, one for coasting richer circuit (emissions) and one for the 4WD indicator. None are required to make it run.

My loose comment was about the clutch parts, sounds like everything should be fine with that.
