wow, i didn't even know they made that manifold!!!

for the engine to work right though you'd have to find a pretty small 4 bbl carb, some thing in the 300-400cfm range

Here is the linkage:

4 barrel offy intake

I bet it would be tough to build a 4 cyl up enough to use that much carb, but it would be fun trying.

four barrel carbs can be found all over though. Probably easier to find one of them in good shape than a stock luv carb or a weber. It sure gives me ideas, I could build an adapter and throw an old quadrajet on my farm truck luv just for kicks to see if I could make it work. Seems funny though, like the accelerator pump should kick out enough to hydrolock the motor.

i know edelbrock makes 500 cfm carbs but i dont know about a 400? it sure does look cool though. can you imagine a nice polished edelbrock feeding your motor... no one would ever expect to see a 4bbl when you pop your hood on your luv... i bet someone from this site will buy it!!! if i had the money it would be mine.

Holly makes a 390 4bbl. Thats not too much bigger than a Weber. I think the 32/36s flow something like 350cfms and the38/38s are almost 400cfms...
Im guessing that summit has those for sale as well. I searched Offys line and found a 4bbl intake for a chevy 1.8L...

I guess we could cheat and make an adapter that blocks the rear bbls. It might run pretty good.

I called Summit on this particular manifold and this is what they told me.
For around 220 bucks you can get one brand new, but heres the catch. The guy who manufactures these for Offey said that he wont make them unless he gets atleast an order of 5. The wait is about 2-3 months. I am going to order one, the price for the used one is already way to high and I am not about to spend that kind of money for somthing used. A Holley 390 4 barrel carb would work perfect for that manifold. So would a carter 400 cfm, but they are not as easy to work on as a holley. I am in the middle of rebuilding my 1.8 and I am going to run a 4 barrel on mine. I am also having a custom header made for the 1.8. I am going to have to open up the exaust side. Larger header tubes will and should do the trick. The holleys are really easy to work on and there is alot of stuff to help those carbs run on the smaller displacement motors, like 4 boppers. I already have one on my inline 6 and I accually prefer it to a 2 barrel carb. The vacume secondaries have a spring that can be changed to meet the demands of the motor. Lighter spring means less vacume to open the secondaries. Heavier spring, just the opposite. The same goes for the power valve and the jets. If you want to run a 4 barrel you are going to have to run a r.v. cam or a custom ground cam, you are going to have to get as much air/fuel mix into the motor/head to make it so that it will run. A hotter spark will also help in the burning of the mix. Its alot of work, time and money to get one to work PROPERLY on a 4 cylinder motor, but worth it, if you want to take the time to make it work. You just cant bolt stuff on a "hope" it works!!
