the pup has developed a problem with the solinoid. sometime itll just click, and ill have to turn the key a few times for it to turn over.

are the solinoids replaceable on these starters?

I dont know if they are replaceable. The Soloniod rarely goes bad so i would think its a problem whith conections. Try cleaning some stuff up. It that fails beat it whith a hammer...

If the solenoid clicks when you turn the key, it's working. Sometimes the internal contacts in it are built up from arcing & the current to the starter motor doesn't get thru. That's fixable with a file. Sometimes there's a dead spot in the motor windings and no torque is produced. Calls for a new starter motor. Or as MEPR posted, bad connections.

That has not really been my experience. The failed starters I've had have been about 50/50 for the motor or the solenoid going bad. I ended up swapping parts on the old dead ones the last couple I replaced one, because I had good solenoids and good motors between a few different starters.

Its cheaper and a hell of allot faster to buy a new starter and put it in. Just go with someone who offers a life time warranty, so you only buy one. The starter will always get smoked if theres any other electrical problems, I went through two new ones before I got a good remanufactured starter. Aren't these trucks a pain in the ass sometimes.
