Well I started up my truck this morning, and drove from Phx to Prescott, about 90mi uphill. it ran fine at idle, but when I stepped on it there was a serious lack of power, I' got a new fuel filter, haven't put it on yet but I'm hopping thats the problem, because I'm about 250mi from all of my tools  any thoughts? ideas?

could be a loose carb. I had this problem last time i pulled Snoqualami pass. It was poping and stuff realy bad. It got to the point where it wouldnt even run, tightened the carb dow and i havent had a problem.

well replaced the fuel filter, that helped a little, checked to see if the carb was all tightened up, it was, took it around for a drive and found that i didn't start to lose power until about 2500-3000 rpms, I'v pretty much narrowed it down to a carb problem, more than likely a clogged jet. So what I'v decided is to fork out the cash for a Weber and get it over with, I'm tired of screwing around with the Hitachi piece of crap.

yoiu might also try cleaning and regapping your points. Test the resistance of the coil, check the cap for cracks/corrosion.

Yeah it sounds like a points issue to me. Weak fuel pump and bad points can act a lot a like. Water in the gas also can act just about the same.

When my 80 luv did this I finally trached it down to a timming chain thae managed to jump about 2 teeth. I took sprocket loose and moved it about 2 teeth foward. This cured problem until I could get home and replace timming chain and componets. This happend between Las Vegas and Kingman.

I'll check the points, and the cap, I don't think it's the gas, I've been getting Chevron so I don't think it's that. I could be the fuel pump, but i doubt it as it's only about a year and a half old. I'm also pretty sure it's not the timing chain, I redid the head in May, and I know it's all good. I'm still going to get the Weber though, I like the idea of a little more power.
