you need to go through the passenger side wheel well, just pull up the rubber skirting, and you'll have the access you need, btw this is a million times easier if you first take the tire off.

I just did this the other day and didn't have a problem going in from the top. One 14mm socket, one short extender, one wobbly adapter, one long extension, and one ratchet. A socket set isn't worth much sometimes without a wobble adapter and a couple long extensions.

The only time I can think of that I've needed a crowsfoot was pulling the carb on my Trooper. I took it off without pulling the valve cover or else I would have had enough room to hit it with a regular wrench. They do work wonders though, got a full set of them. Deepwell sockets are also a big help.

More on the starter, I recall even being able to get to both bolts with a socket and extensions on the 79 I used to have with factory AC. It is all about getting the right angle on it I think.

ya i got the doner starter on now but i have no power at the ignition switch. i got the ignition out of the same truck and "I" do not know if it works. but anyway i used a remote starter and it turned over. so i go and do the old finger over #1 cyl trick and to my supprise there was verry little compression. thats not my worry though. i need to get this thing wired so the ignition will work. i have looked and looked at the doner truck and have hooked up all the electrical in my truck just like in the doner. the other truck i was told was running but had an oil leak and ran out of oil so it blew the motor. everything should work...but its not. any reason why it would start with a remote start but not with the igntion? also on the doner truck there is a ground wire that had been cut. i dont know but it looks like the thick black with white stripe that goes to the starter but its not. on "my" truck i have 2 wires like that going nowhere they are short and thick black wires one with a white strip and one with a yellow stripe(i think). im soooo confused. i really need to get this rig on the road as its my only work truck. i would be willing to pay someone to put in a few hours in on her, please help! thanks for saving me again luvers!

I don't know how thick of a wire you're talking about, but on my 80 there is a black wire w/yellow stripe that's what I consider fairly small that goes from the ignition to the fuse box to (if I remember correctly) the relay for the fuel pump and the + side of the coil.

Also, (to cover all bases) my + battery cable is thick black with yellow stripe that goes from + battery post to the starter (once again, if I'm thinking correctly).

Hope that helps. Good luck. You might want to check out the wiring diagrams in the information section if you haven't already to try to track your problem down.

There should be a big fat wire going from each battery post, one from the negative goes down to the body right at the edge of the battery box where it just connects and keeps going to the side of the block. The positive side goes straight to the starter. Also on the positive side though should be a wire or two that go into the harness that runs along the top of the inner fender. Those power the all of the electrical system except the starter motor. If you don't have them hooked up to the battery you won't get anything, no lights no fire no nothing. It originally has a connector with a couple wires in the middle between the bat and the harness, that is a fusible link. Could be just a connector hanging loose from the harness if that is removed. It will be a big wire, bigger than anything except those two fat main battery cables.

When you turn the key on the heater fan should come on(unless you have AC), and the gen/oil lights should come on. If you get nothing at all, I'd suspect that main power wire to the harness. If that is good, it would have to be wiring or the ignition switch. Do take a look at the wiring diagrams in the info section of the main luvtruck site. They should help you get it figured out.

i was thinking it mite be a ground wire??? im going to go down there today and take a picture of the 2 unknown wires and try to post them here. the 2 wires are verry short and have eyehole connections on them. they are rite beside the metal box on the pass side by the firewall. they are verry short. i have hooked up the pos cable and made sure to connect the plug's. like i said on my doner truck it had a kinda thick black wire grounded on the pass side rite by the motor mount but its only about an inch long and is cut so i dont know witch wire to hookup. i do have lights front and rear, but when i turn the ignition... nothing. the plug on the ignition looks to be in great shape. the connections and the plug is not dirty or anything...perfect. and on the commpression thing. what is the commpression supposed to be around? when i put my finger over #1 i barly felt anything. one more thing. to see the timing mark on the balencer/pulley do i need to take out the radiator? i have looked and looked and can not see it. it mite be my garaqge is really dark ands i cant see alot. after i take some photos how do i upload them into this page? i want to post some on the site but i dont know how.well untill i write my next post... see yall later!
also in S. Everett rite by buzz in is a verry verry nice stepside luv for sale. white, and i dident see no rust/straight body. maybe ctmando will drive down from ??? to pick it up. he is the stepside king rite??? lol, have a great day!
