 Post subject: distributor question

my son said his distributor has sparks coming out of it ..... what could cause this.... update its sparking from the pos+ side of the coil to where the center wire is for the distributor at the coil if that makes sence

i would guess a crack or hole in something. I would replace the wire and the coil.

That’s all we can think off he has gone threw everything and can’t find anything wrong. It has all new wires so he is going to get a new coil today and try that, thanks

The high voltage side is "looking" for a ground. The least resistance one is where it's sparking. Did your son get a factory length set of wires or did he have to cut them to length? If the latter, check that the crimped metal connector he installed on the high tension lead to the center of the distributor cap is correct.

My best guess is a crack in the coil tower or a bad sheid on the coil wire.
