I'm trying to buy a 79 Luv from a friend of mine and we're doing all the work. We have been working on mu truck for about 2 months now. It started with finding a transmission to finding the right clutch fork for it. My friend, former employee at a Chevy dealership, looked in their part book for the fork and ordered the part. When we tried to put it together, it was the wrong part. He said that it was it, that was the only part.
Maybe you guys know people who are parting out their luv's or would have an extra part they want to sell. I will try and get a picture of what it looks like.
I was hoping that you guys may be able to direct me in the right direction as far as where to look for this part. I really really want this truck and have fallen in love with it so please help me!

Can I ask a favor? I'm having a hard time looking for the right transmission for my truck. Can someone take a picture so I'll have an idea of what it looks like? I guess there are 2 kinds, ones from 76-77 trans that uses a u-shape fork and ones from 78-80 trans that uses a diamond shape fork. I need to know which one I have. So far both tranis that I have found looks diff from each other but the ball where the fork goes to is in the same place.

I've never really looked at the forks so I can't say I'd know looking at just the which one is which. The 76-77 LUVs had a hydralic cluth with the slave cylinder on the right hand side of the transmission. 78 and up used a cable clutch going in on the left side of the trans. If you can see a difference in the outside end of the fork where the slave cylinder plunger would push against it, or a cable would attach maybe that would help tell them apart.

If anyone else here can clarify/correct me please do. Hope this is a help.

Might be able to. Basically from what I know, if the fork goes in on the left and the starter is on the right, its a 78 or newer. Fork on the right, and it has to be at least 77 or older. I think 75 and older are different yet again. There might be some differences for 81 and newer stuff or diesel motors too, but I haven't had to deal with too many of those so I'm not sure.

I turned on email in my profile here, so you should see an email button under my posts. Feel free to send me a pic of your trans and I will tell you whatever I can.

i have one in my trans that you can have just pay for shipping and it`s yours.its a 77 though so i dont know if it would help you or not. it is kind of a diamond shape.it is a hydraulic clutch fork that exits on the driver side of the trans. but i would try to figure out which one you need first .later
