Well I just got a estimate to paint my LUV. Most shops around here wont do custom work so I am limited. I decided on a pearl white, just like my 04 harley, with painted pinstriping under the clear coat. My buddy told me he won't go cheap on my truck because "you are a picky fucker". So he wants to skim coat the truck complete to get it as straight as possible. So here is the problem, $4500.00. Looks like he may be my best choice. I guess it's only money and you can't take it with you.

Wow, that is alot, but it is gonna be a PEARL paint-job, seems about right, shoot, just for my truck to be painted base-coat clear-coat with a light and dark grey two-tone was only $1400, and that was replacing rust holes in the bed with metal.

Remember, it's an old LUV truck and you will never get that money back.
If you plan to show it ..OK. but I think that is way too much for just a drive around truck.

What youre dealing with is the same old story. Body shops want insurance work. They can make more money doing repetetive collision work on newer cars. Most will give you an estimate high enough to make you think twice. They figure if you pass then they dont have to dick with an old car. If you take the bait, its worth their while now. Have you considered doing the body work yourself and then having someone paint it or having the body work done by someone and painting it yourself?

I suck at body work. This is a friend of mine and has been for 10 plus years. He has done all of my family's work. My wife is also in the insurance business and does not want to lose her referrals. This is a honest price, I have had another estimate of 6K also.

Screw it, it's a done deal. I am starting to disassemble and will deliver the LUV to him in 2 weeks. This is the final step for my toy. Rondog, this is not a show truck, just my street toy. Not that it matters but this is my reasoning for it. When I was in school all of my friends had nice rides. I could not afford them at that time. Well the tables have turned and now I can afford it and really want a finished street rod. Yes it's just a old LUV, but it in a way is alittle pay back for all my years of hard work and schooling. It won't take food off of my table, so to hell with it, it will get done.

Hey, thats cool. When I was in school my buddies had 68 327 Chevelle, 69 350 Camaro, 68 350 Chevelle, 64 327 Impala, & 54 400m Ford ? that were done nice thanks to moms and pops. I had a 72 C-10 long bed w/6 cyl. that was a nice old truck, but far from what I was in with. I still cant afford it but skim a little off my check and save for what ever I need for the Luv. I say good for you for doing something that makes you happy.

Watch out man, when I got mine painted (wanted pearl white till I seen the price!!!) I had no intention of showing it, or putting the detail into it that I did. Ended up showing it for a little over 10 years, just a waring, the fever bites hard! Man I miss those years, they were the best times of my life, met so many cool people at many many car shows!!

I sent it off to paint today. I really hope to have it done by the meet. The body shop says it should be ready.

After a week in the shop they are making good progress. Glad I stopped in, they forgot to shave the gas filler.

They painted it last night (Thursday). When I stopped by they were just getting ready to color sand and buff it. I will get it back on Tuesday. It is hard to see the pearl paint job in the light I had to take the pix in.
