I am starting to collect parts slowly but surely... so i again have some questions

i have been talking with a few people and i wanted to come here and hear your opinions!

but what is your favorite Carb, on top of a mild 350? and keep in mind i want to maintain some mpg.. if that is possible lol

i have a guy with me that knows how to work with Holley's, so i got some inside there. but i have heard good things about edelbrock?

i am looking to run 650-700 cfm

thanks in advance

well ill tell ya right now, you wont have anymilage with anything over 600cfm. you best bet would to get a 600 holley. the one with the small fulebowls. the most common thing people do is over carb there motors and ruin their milage and bottom end power.

If you are lookin for gas mileage your best bet would be a 450-500cfm quadrajet i bought one for my 69 chevy pickup (work truck) it works great if you don't want to go to the drag strip every weekend i get about 19 mpg on a stock 400 in my 69 and that is loaded with about 1500 lbs of tools they are also alot cheaper than an y other carb if you go to the parts store find a clerk that will take the time to look up several diferent year modles and you should find one for well under 200 bucks mine was 139.99 with a 50 core at oreilly's auto parts not sure what year but i think it was around 78-80 non emissions

yep. qjets are good for milage too. they only flow about 300cfm though the primaries, but when you open up the secondaries, the motor will use what it needs. so in all reality a qjet can flow up to 895cfm, but most of the time youll only be using abour 300 of it.

so using a Qjet would be alright for the strip too?

and on those Qjets does it use vacuum secondaries?

The thing about quadra jets are that they are ugly.. If you wanna nice purdy engine dont get a Qjet. They do have vacuum secondaries too. I recomend on getting a Holley Dominator. Absolutly no gas milage at all.

No but I am really wanting to put fuel injection on my truck. I got an Edelbrock 600 and the intake I will get you for cheap.

you can also get a predator carb from summit or jegs they look really cool and they flow up too 900 cfm depending on what the motor will pull. the quadrajet carb i would not recomend for the drag strip or on a fancey cromed out engine bay but they will get the best mpg and is probabley the cheapest way out

I seem to like edelbrocks the best. Good carb in my opinion. I got a 650 cfm on the LUV now, and considering it came off a 400 its a tad big. I would go with an edey in the 500 to 600 range.

Q-jets are ugly thats for sure, but they work all the time and are easy to tune.

Don't get a holley, unless your a holley carb expert and have 20 years + in experience in tuning them. If you are however...then good because their a great carb if you can tune it.

EDIT - Holley carb help is great...when its around...its not so great when its not though...
