Alrighty now i have a coolant level issue, i think. When i check the coolant cold it is just above the top of the cores. Now if i pop the cap when the engine is hot then the level is somewhat higher. Now i do still have a coolant leak out of the side of the headgasket at #3 cylinder. Now its not a blown HG or anything becouse it dosnt loose much water and i dont get clouds of white smoke and i i dont have bubles in the radiator when hot and alos the oil and coolant are seprate. SOOOO anyone have any ideas or am i worrying about nothing?

yeah last time i was 4wheeling i was climbing a hill in 1foot of snow so i had the pedal burried in 4lo turning about 5500rpm for a good minute or two and it just hit the 190* mark on my gage. So i would say my cooling system is working realy well.

Well its normal for it to move up and down some if you don't have a sealed return cap and an overflow tank. If you've got an overflow tank, then it should stay topped off all the time until the overflow runs dry. If it isn't, something is wrong with the outer seal on the cap so it can't create a vacuum and pull coolant back in when the motor cools. Combine that with your small leak and it would eventually get low even hot.

well i run a 7lbs cap and the overflow tank has never had any coolant in it. So i suppose that might be my problem then.

The coolant does expand when it gets hotter.. kind of like my post about gas expanding... fill up when it's cold out...

I always run the 18 wheeler I drive a little low so it doesn't blow out everywhere.. No reserve tank

Yes it expands when it gets hot. That how it becomes a pressurized system, which raises the boiling point.

Your overflow bottle might need a new hose. There should be some coolant in the bottle, and the eng. will add more when it gets warm and suck it back when it cools off. The hose needs to go to the bottom of the bottle.
