Are the door hinges on a 72 and 78 the same?

According to the factory parts book, 72-80 use the same part number for both the upper and lower hinge.

Thanks, 800xl. The one on my 80 left side is pretty loose.

Also you can take the top hinge from the right side flip it over and use it on the driver side top. I did this on mine and it worked great. beside the passenger side gets less use and are usually in great shape

I managed to fix mine on the 79 I have now. I took an old hinge, pounded the pin out, and then sleeved the inner hinge section with some copper pipe.

The uppers are different part numbers for each side but I do recall them being so similar that you could swap them side to side. I like to do the same with the door lock cylinders, the driver's side is always way more worn than the passenger's side.

You can make the lower hinge work with a little inginuity, a grinder and a sawsall and a vice. I purchased some from the local wrecking yard and when I purchased them THEY (wrecking yard) said that they were reversible. NOT!!! But you can make them work. You just dont have the advantage of having the stopper thing, that all disapears into the scap heap. The upper hinges work fine by reversing the things. I had no problem with them but the lower ones where kind of a bitch to get to work but they do work, if you take the time to make them work!!
PEACE!!
