Any one ever have the ignition switch loosen up and turn in the hole in the dash and cause a short that melted the whole wiring harness together? Is this a common problem and if so any ideas to keep this from happening again? Well I guess now I can really say Im burnt out.

Im not crazy Im just tired of running into things that have been modified by people that dont know what they are doing and dont take pride in the work they do. I can make up a list of things about 30 pages long that I have straitened out in my truck and every time I tear into something new its like opening up a huge can of worms. The day I ripped the carpet out I was totally amazed to see that the transmission tunnel had been cut out and rebuilt using 1/4 inch steel to build a custom shifter set up that looks like it belongs in a brinks armored truck. Some of the wiring looks like someone used up a bunch of those cheasy green 2 wire christmas light extension cords and decided to splice it all together. The list keeps on going like the energizer rabbit and every thing I havent got a chance to redo is seriously starting to scare me. I figure the way my schedule has been I should have it in cherry condition in a about 4 more years.

you got more patience than me. I probably would've taken a sledge hammer and cutting torch to it a long time ago. You need to put in a garage where you can strip it clear down and slowly restore it in your spare time. Turn it into a fun project that's not a necessity.

And I could tell you about houses, Tilted. This one I just bought is turning into a money pit. Some of sh-t the previous owner did is so outlandish it's hilarioius in the telling.

LOL I used to be the with a sledge hammer when I got mad but one day I had a thought pop into my head it was allmost like what an alcoholic would call a moment of clarity. I reallized that the more I get mad and decide to take my anger out on something else its just something else I would have to fix or replace. In particular case I dont want to have to fix something on my truck because chances are I have allready fixed it right once before. One of the guys I work with says I set the world record for throwing a 90 pound jack hammer and the hard hat throw. The guy I bought my truck from wasnt a doper I think he was more like an old okie that just thought he was cool because he had a Luv with a V8, ooga horn, JCwhitney clearance lights and a grill guard.

My moment of clarity came when I tried to put my fist thru the windshield of 1948 Buick two door I had. I changed tactics and now cuss a blue streak when I get PO'd. Which is often since I have one of those Irish tempers.

Just take it all out and get a new harness from painless or ezwiring or something similar. At least you will know it's right and will be reliable. m2p

I think I can re wire it myself looks pretty simple from the diagram I looked at on here. I am an electrician so as long as I have the time to get to it and I dont have anyone looking over my shoulder getting on my nerves I know I can do it and do it right.

An electrician---- Then that explains it. A carpenters roof leaks, a plumbers pipes are plugged, and an electricians wires are crossed    j/k good luck on the fix!!!!!!!!!!

LOL I said I was an electrician not the guy that had his hands in the wiring before I got the truck. This is a good thing in a way I have been wanting to go through the wiring and remove all the extra stuff that was used with the stock motor. There are old plugs and wires cut off every where under the hood that arent being used. I have been dreading going through it since the day I got the truck but now I dont have a choice if I want it up and running. I deal with wiring every day not exactly what I want to do on my one or two days I get to actually be home. Im kind of mad that I wont be home until friday so its stuck in my mind and I feel helpless I cant get to it to fix it.

The last stock car I built required a lot of welding and in some pretty twisted postions that I couldnt get into with my welding hood on. I ended up in the doctors office its not fun. Nothing like the feeling you have sand in your eyes and you cant get it out.
