Check into your state laws and see whats legal and whats not. Worst part of building something like that is when its doesn't meet legal standards and you have to rebuild/redo something.

its very easy. just need a welder, some square tube and a tongue to weld on. some basic wiring and ur all set. I was looking for a LUV with a wrecked front so i could use the rear half to tow behind my LUV. I may still do it. Here in CA u have to have the DMV inspector check it out before they will issue a plate for it. they just verify that the tail/brake lights are working and thats it.

Yeah about the only tip I was going to offer is to find a tongue/hitch to mount on it. Preferably find that before you start cutting/fabbing as it may lead you one way or the other on how you form up the front.

I've got a LUV bed trailer that I need to get finished up. I had to rob the axle out of it and the tongue isn't quite right yet. I cut the frame long, then notched it right in front of the bed and bent it in to form the first part of the tongue.

Yeah its best to do it similar to the way 800 is doing his... cut the frame quite long and notch it to start the tounge... Its much stronger that way... I've made a trailer out of a 3 ton wrecker that way... Kinda funny watching the rear part of a tow truck with dual wheels, boom, sling, amber warning lights and all, being towed behind a pickup that is less than half its size..... 8)

Notching and bending the existing frame does make sence. Less welded joints to crack when he over loads it the first time out  I have looked around at tongues and they are cheaper than I expected. Not that it matters now that everything is buried in f###ing snow.
