 Post subject: Bryans mounts
PostPosted: Mon Feb 17, 2003 8:09 pm
Bryan sent me a copy of the plans to make his motor and transmission mounts. I am happy to say I had a set of them made and I can say I'm happy with the design. Thanks Bryan for all of your help. The only problem I'm having is I'm using the long water pump and didn't realize I have to notch the front cross member so the bottom pully will clear.

Sorry Bayluv, Ive been doing my truck over several years and have forgotten certain things such as you'll have to run a short water pump, as you can see on mine its electric, as well as i run an after market pulley also. Bryan

after market electric pumps are cool with an electric fan, If you put the alternator down low, you have one small belt outof the way. I did the moroso pump and it looked bad! my cooling problems led me to go mechanical.

I removed the pully today and It still won't go back any further the mount doesn't line up with original hole from the stock mount plate. I posted a pic of where my mounts are sitting on the stock plates on the web site.
It looks to me like the top of the trans is in as far as it will go against the firewall. Tomorrow I think I'll try dropping the trans down a little and see if I can push it back. It only needs to go back about 1/2inch.any advive would be helpful.

When i initially made these i mocked it up with a bare block. It was extremely close to the firewall. You most likely will have to modify your firewall. I chose to cut mine out and fab a recess into it, i imagine you could grab a 4 lb sledge and massage it a bit where its hitting. Keep me in touch. Bryan

SHE'S ALL BOLTED UP!!!!! I dropped the tranny and let it rest on the cross member, got in front of it and it pushed back with minimal effort. Lady luck was riding with me today, she knew I was going back to work tomorrow and I at least wanted to have the engine and trans at least bolted up!The hole lined right up I put the bolts and hand tightened them then I jacked the trans back up and tightened all the bolts! I only put the front bolts on the mounts because I'll have them welded when I have my exhaust done!

Hey bay, did you by chance scan through our V8 swap article? I know it talks about notching the front crossmember to clear a long water pump.. Just wondering if I made that part clear in the article. Also anyone else planning on doing a V8 swap, you might take a quick scan through that document, I think it points out some good tips when making those initial decisions. F.Y.I :)

I read the artical when I first joined the site, I had forgotten that part. I'm just going to run a short waterpump I really don't want to cut into the frame.

yeah I just bought a short water pump off of ebay for 55 bucks it's a high volume pump for a vette so I am hoping once I get the donor radiator soon that it will help with the cooling of it. I just went to the library.... yes a scary thing an army guy in a library!! anyway I found a few good books here about hotrodding a SBC so I will check it out and see if I can go for it. I mean like SS told me dont be afraid ! lol Well I figure I can do as much as I can to the engine before I drop it in the truck which will be more than likely a year from now ! when I get back from the desert!!! Still looking for those takers in helping me do they swap while I'm gone !!    :drinking: :robot: Well just thought I would throw that in there!!!!!
