When go to start my truck somtimes I just hearing a clicking sound (which I think is the solenoid). It takes about 3 or 4 tries to get it turn over.
If the truck has been running then I turn it off and go to start it again,
it seems to start right up.
I cleaned the following: Battery posts, wire ternminals, where the postive cable meets the starter and where the ground cable is attached (on the intake manifold). I replaced the starter a year ago and put very little milage on my truck.
Can the regulator be tested?

Yes.
You could pull it off and take it in to an auto parts store that tests them.
Drive it in to a battery place and they can check it.
Those are generally free services.
Or I do believe there is a procedure you can follow in the manual. If you choose this route post back and I will look it up and post it.

My Chevy Luv hasnt done this, but i have an S-1 blzaer that did the same thing. what i found was the problem was the actual cable going to the starter. I cleaned all the terminals and that didnt fix it so i pulled back the plastic covering on the battery cables and it was corroded all under there, after i changed cables the problem stopped. It's worth a shot.

My cables arnt too old, especially the postive one,the previoius one touched the intake and melted. =-)
I think I wil see if Reibes (Napa) will test my regulator.
Thanks

If you still haven't fixed it try taking the solenoid off the starter, clean the barrel and piston with emory cloth. I had the same problem.

Did you grease the moving plunger in the solenoid? Check the contacts on the solenoid for arcing and pitting. Try starting it when it's dark out with the head lights on. If the lights go real dim while cranking, it could be a bad battery, OR high resistance like corrosion in the cables.
