aside from it looking bitchin when the hood is opened, is there any upside on fuel economy when shoe horning a v-8 into the luv, or would a v-6 be more suitable. i have two trucks ill be playing with, one id like to use as a commuter and looking to get the best gas milage possible with a little extra playing power. the other is going to be strictly a weekend playtoy so i have no qualms in slamming a v-8 into it. any helpful information will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on your setup, the truck in my avatar has a 350, 9" with 3.00 (possibly 3.73, have conflicting info and haven't take the time to check myself) gears. I check on the only highway trip on it and it got 17mpg.
So if that isn't good enough through a 4.3 in it. Should be more than enough power, plus you should get better mileage.

If you put a 350/350 in for a daily driver, your gas mileage probably won't be that great. Main reason is because most people put in a cam, and that automatically throws your gas mileage out the window. Besides that your foot is the most important element in gas savings. I know someone who geta 24 m.p.g. He has a 305/700r4 I'm going with a LT1/4L60E with a 3:70 Ford nine inch. I also should get about 24 on the highway. My brother had a 92 S-10 with a 4.3 that got good mileage, but also ran surprisingly well.
