the only diference between the G160 G180 and G200s is the bore. Everything else interchanges to my knowledge.

yeah to be a G200 it has to be stamped G200. But you can always have the block bored out. So my G180 in reality is actually a G200...
Confused? Good me too...

I was under the impression that the G200 head had a bit larger chamber size than a g180. If that theory is right, you'd have a tad lower compression with the 200 head on a 180 motor. If the block has been bored like MEPR's truck, it might be dead on to have a g200 head on it even if the chamber is bigger.

I've got a truck that has a g180 head on it, and the block isn't marked in the usual place. I suspect the motor came from an S10 pickup, no Isuzu marks on the block, and the valve cover is blank. The original head from that motor came with the truck and it has a mech fuel pump hole and a couple other differences that make it look more like a G200. Without the number on the block casting I could not tell for sure, but it looks like a G200 with a 180 head on it. Anyhow, the compression tests out at 195PSI, which is a bit high according to the book, even for a brand new G180. Hence the reason for my theory on differences in the heads.

If it runs good then I guess there is not much worry, but it might be interesting to see numbers from a compression check.

hummm i guess chamber size may be diferent, it would make sense if it is. And did all the G200s come whith mechanical fuel pumps? I know G180 and G160 Z heads have the boss for the mechanical fuel pump. I dont know about the W heads, ive never seen one of them in person...

Most of the G200s I've seen have had the mechanical pump. I know 84-85 Troops have it, and all the S10s I can remember seeing did. The place for it is cast into the head on LUV motors, but there just isn't a hole cut out for it. There is a little deal that bolts onto the end of the camshaft with the timing sprocket to run it.

Only turbo Impulses came from the factory with a limited slip rear. All the rest of them came with an open diff just like a LUV, though probably with a different gear ratio. The 5 speed in them does look like a good match for a 76-77 LUV though. I looked at an 88 with a 2.3L and it has a hydro clutch setup that looked like it would line up well with a hyrdo clutched LUV.

I think 800xl nailed it, I went back and peeked at the rear and it's a different animal, has a cover on the back of the rear, so I didn't bother with it lol. But all the trans + motor is untouched, AC too I can snag both for about $300 bucks, just dont know what I'd do with it, that computer crap is complicated! lol Find a turbo exhaust manifold and someone could have a fun toy though.
