Well my LUV blew out the collector gasket so it is now open header style. Will this hurt anything in the long run? Ill just be running it this way over to Spokane (about 350miles total). Unless the parts stor has my size collector gasket and 3 bolts in stock.

does it have a header on it, or just the short manifold?
I don't know if you will need to worry about burning an exhaust valve or not. If cold air hits the hot ass exhaust valves, it could damage them.
just FYI

It used to be that cold air would warp an exhaust valve.

Other than being on the loud side, I don't think will hurt anything. A header is enough pipe between the air and the motor to keep from damaging valves. A stock manifold would be cutting it pretty close though.

You will want to make sure that it isn't going to dump out onto something important, like wiring, fuel line, brake line, your foot. You will probably at least have a hot spot on your floorboard. In a pinch you can get a bit better seal with some heavy foil. Just wrap that collector like a baked spud, and run some wire around it on either side of the leak. It won't keep it from leaking a whole lot, but it would let you control whether it hit something important or not. It also wouldn't last long either.

It would also be a very good idea to run with the windows cracked open a bit. Exhaust gas could collect in the cab some and that would not be good for you or the truck when you doze off on the freeway. CO poisoning can creep up on ya too, not something to mess with.

well i have the pace setter header on mine. I think its about 30-36" in length. The header dumps at the tranny crossmember so its back there a ways. But anyway the parts stor had the gasket in stock so its all sealed up again.
As far as the spot spot goes, my truck floor boards already get too hot to touch if i run it at highway speeds for 3+ hours. And when i was getting parts for it this morning i drove whith all the windows open. I didnt like the idea of CO poisioning either.

Yeah, CO poisoning sucks. I had the EGR pipe crack on my 77, could not figure out why I was getting so tired when I was driving to work in the morning and not in the afternoon. Morning was cold and afternoon was warm, drove with the window open on the way home. Lucky for me it was a short trip to work and I noticed what was going on within a week and got it fixed. (Before I took a road trip)

My 79 with a header also got warmish on the floorboards, I kept thinking about putting in some sort of heatshield but never got around to it. I had carpet still in there with the thermal/sound barrier stuff under it so it wasn't too bad. I only noticed if I was driving barefoot or something.
