Where are the VIN numbers stamped on the LUV? I have a 73 and just bought a 78 Makado and am thinking of doing a body switch. I would hate to have a CHP think I have a stolen vehicle because of different numbers.

There is a tag on the drivers door jamb and the last few numbers of the vin are also stamped below the passernger side wiper in the engine compt.

There is also a stamping of the last few digits under the cowl panel (louvered chunk of sheetmetal between the rear edge of the hood and the windshield) and I have heard that it can be found on the frame right near the fuel tank. The one under the cowl is stamped into the sheetmetal of the cab. I have never had a reason to look for the one on the frame, but I've read a couple of posts here that mention it might be there.

The only other thing I've seen is a painted stencil of part of the vin on the outer side of the frame rail on the passenger side of the truck. It is usually completely illegible though, if not painted over completely. I assume some of the numbers on the block of the engine can be connected to the VIN, but I have not found the VIN number itself anywhere on the motor.

This is the same, although not as descriptive a location, as what 800xl is describing.

Just didn't want you looking for a second stamping...
