one year ago they levelled the historic Carlsbad Raceway (40 year history) which was 40 miles from me and at sea level. It was a sad day in drag racing history. Once the favorite drag strip of Don Prudhomme. now the closest 1/4 mile drag strip is Fontana (California Speedway) and next closest in Palmdale (LA County) we have a couple 1/8th mile strips within 20 miles from me but one is a cop fest and is a front for the po po to collect intel on street racers and the other has dirty air so your ET's are crappy. I'd rather make the drive to Irwindale to run the 1/8th than run the ones here. San Diego needs a drag strip!!!!
That sucks, I have many fond memories of that track. I will always remember that damn wall at the end, and how hard I would hit it if the brakes went on my camaro lol I still have a scar on my left hand from when my buddy grenaded his trans in the burnout box, had to dig a needle bearing out of my hand that was from the u-joint that exploded. We were always partial to carlsbad vs palmdale just for the elevation. With a population like it is down there, they should have one 1/4 mile track down there, thats just dumb logic. Im sure the street racing 'problem' will get worse.
