I know some of you V-8 guys have to be running DOT slicks on you truck. So what brand do you prefer? Im looking for something that will be streetable but will hook up decently. Thanks in advance.

You could try a drag radial, like from M/T or BF Goodrich

I work with some guys with drag cars. High 12 sec.78 T/A with BFGs drag radial, felt he had to extend his burn outs to get them to heat up. High 10 sec. 92 Mustang with M/Ts ET street is very satisfied with them. Low 9 sec. 68 camaro also with the BFGs said they balled up and chuncks started to fall off of them.

I would recommed a set of Mickey Thompson ET drags with the "not for highway use" buzzed off using a whizzer wheel. take that down to one of the local circle track guys and have them put 2 grooves in them.

I've played around wiht all different brands of DR's and street slicks. MT ET streets worked the best for me and the Nitto 555's are the best DR's IMO.

LOL! Man, I wish I would have thought of that years ago. I actually got my truck impounded for 30 days because of that dam "not for highway use" on the side of the slicks. Wire wheel... man... woulda saved me about $5000.

I agree, the ET drags work the best for me too.

<me goes to the garage to look for a wire wheel>

my friend who cuts tires for off road truck racers actually made a stamp that says "DOT APPROVED". he hits it wit a propane torch and heats it up and brands the slick's sidewall with it. lol.

I've had cops closely look at the sidewall of my ET drag and totally believe it was an ET Street. they let me go with just a warning about low tread

on a somewhat related note: I ride cruisers and I bought what is called a "novelty helmet" meaning its sold as a novelty and its not approved for highway use. so i asked the big biker dude: hey, you got a decal that says "DOT Approved" behind that counter? he looked around real fast and said SSHHHHHHHH!!! Jesus what are you trying to do? then he looks around again and throws me a sticker that says "DOT" on it. he said "complimentary with your helmet purchase". I said "close enough"... we both share a laugh, i stick the decal on the back of my helmet and ride off.
