The closest drag strip that i know of around here (New England Dragway) is a little more than 150 miles away :? .... There are rumors however of Seekonk Speedway putting in a 1/4 mile... That'd be nice as thats about 15 miles.. :D

Bandimere Speedway, home of the Mile High Nationals. I use to live about 5 miles from it but now I am in this wonderful apartment, it is about 25 miles away (and my LUV is 450 miles from it now) . Only ran the LUV down it once (No seatbelts  ), ran a 15.8 but I snoozed big time at the light.

hhmm I didn`t realize there was more than one firebird dragstrip.
We have firebird here that is located in chandler az, we also have speedworld motorplex located in surpirise. firebird approx 35 miles, speedworld is about 15 from me. I like speedworld the best they cater more to the average joe out there. to me there is alot less attitude going on. either way I haven`t had my truck out in awhile trying to get my sandrail ready for the dunes for thanksgiving. just built a new turbo vw stroker motor for it. plus with gas prices right now it would cost me 30 bucks in gas just for the tow vehicle. plus 30 for race fuel and food and entry fee.so much for a cheap weekend at the drags.

Phoenix growth in the last 20 years is amazing. 20 years ago when I went to UTI in Phx. ,Firebird was in the middle of nowhere. Now it is malls and houses all the way to the raceway. If it anything like L.A. I bet it will close eventually because the people living around there will complain about the noise. IT WAS THERE FIRST! DEAL WITH IT! Is what I say.

yea the city growing like crazy it sucks I can`t wait to retire and get out. I`ve been here pretty much all my life native to phoenix. I went to high school in payson about 80 mile north. that was the only time I haven`t lived here. the cities have bought some of the houses around the air force basses and the air ports , to shut people up. but I know that won`t happen with the tracks. some of the people that have moved in around speedworld are allready complaining. I can`t stand people like that. you knew it was there when you built your house and moved there. so shut up deal with it.

Houston Raceway park is less than 2 blocks from the house.I can see the main gate from my back yard. Houston Motorsports park is about 20 miles from the house ,but its an 1/8 mile track.

Here, in the Denver area, they built houses by Rocky Flats, an old nuclear weapons plant, on the old Stapleton airport land and the old Lowry air force base and these people cant figure out why they get sick??? 8O Not real bright.
Also Bandimere almost move a couple of years ago because of all the buttheads that complained in the area. But they are still there so far! 8)

Irwindale speedway is about 20 miles from me. It is a 1/2 mile oval with a 1/8 mile drag. It is a really nice place.
L.A. fairgrounds has a 1/4 mile drag known as Fairplex in Pomona. It's also about 20 miles from me. I don't know if they do any street racer nights. I think the residents complain too much there. I know they are always fighting them to keep the NHRA winter nationals there.

we have another group of people here that like to try and build there house in the middle of the desert where no one else is. Then when they get rattlesnakes or mountain lions hanging out in their back yard. They try to sue the state or fire dept. for not protecting their children. I wonder where some of these people got there common seance. I think they lost it with their higher education. not that I`m baggin on learning things . it seems like everyone I know that has a master degree or something has lost all of their common sense when they got their degree. some of them can`t figure out how to put gas in their car without trying to over analyze it.

one year ago they levelled the historic Carlsbad Raceway (40 year history) which was 40 miles from me and at sea level. It was a sad day in drag racing history. Once the favorite drag strip of Don Prudhomme. now the closest 1/4 mile drag strip is Fontana (California Speedway) and next closest in Palmdale (LA County) we have a couple 1/8th mile strips within 20 miles from me but one is a cop fest and is a front for the po po to collect intel on street racers and the other has dirty air so your ET's are crappy. I'd rather make the drive to Irwindale to run the 1/8th than run the ones here. San Diego needs a drag strip!!!!
