Well we're changing the U-joint in the new truck we just got and it's giving us a big problem, the caps on the joint won't go in far enough for the clips to go in the grooves. we're thinkin' it's a crapfully manufactured U-joint or a needle bearing fell in, I geuss my dad's gonna check what's which. Oh and the old caps were all broken so we can't use em'.

i had that same problem when i did the first two u-joints in my truck. i took the driveline to my machinest and he put the clips in and did a good measurement between them and got me a heavier duty one on order.

turns out the stocker is metric and most parts stores carry the sae equivilant of the same size......well close.....

the grease fitting is in a totaly stupid spot for such a small u-joint too.

to get to the point, take the one that didn't fit back and tell them to order you the right one based on measurement. if they give you any guff bout it, leave. any good parts store will open up the big book and find the right one for ya.

Some machine shop or driveshaft places can straighten it, if it's not too bad. I dont know idf it is diesel only or STD Luv.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

It's a diesel longW.B. and it'll be 150 bucks, so we called up our buddy we've deemed "Larry"(no that's not his name, don't ask for it, he's the one with a bunch o' pups) and he's gonna sell us one for cheap that's got OK joints and we can probably clean up.

well if that falls through i have a shaft out of my 78 LWB sitting in my parents shop. I dont know what they changed in 81 but it would be worth a shot. $5 plus shipping or something.

Ive been fighting U-joint problems all week finally gave up today and took it to a different drive line shop. Yesterday I took my drive line to a shop and they stood around looking at it telling me I was crazy and wanted me to spend 300 bucks to change the yoke on the rear end and the end of my shaft. The LUV project seems to be a pain lately it seems like everything you buy or use has to be custom fabricated.

thanks mepr, but we got the shaft (all of it from the trans to diff.) from the guy, forget how much it was but it rides so well now, problem is though that the RPMs are so much higher than if I was driving my truck at the same speed. I think we'll just use it for little trips to the store or towing(which my truck is usually used for)
