My faithful old luv blew a headgasket last week. My fault , I didn't use the brand I like.
Head checks out good. Put in new gasket and check valve timing all ok.
Truck will not idle. Runs ok at medium revs but will die if allowed to idle.
Starts good. Ignition timing ok.
Truck is a 1980 luv sport 4x4. Original engine. I have had it since 1985.
About 140,000 miles.
Any ideas. all are welcome.

I'm thinking that you've got an air leak. A vacuum line is missing or you got a new cracked line or fitting when you pulled it apart. If everything checks out ok and you're sure that it's not and air leak, Then I'd think that the carb has some crap in the idle curcuit. Again, a result of pulling it apart. Loose crap in the float bowl has made its way in to the curcuitry. But im thinking it's a vacuum leak, it's most common with repairs like this.

yep, read through your post and was thinking vac leak before I even got to Blue Meanie's. I concur, and indeed agree. Sounds like a vac leak to me.

A compression check is always a good idea when dealing with head gaskets too. If its not running right after you get the head back on, comp check will tell you if it is sealing up good or not.

I'm partial to felpro for head gaskets, either that or a NOS factory gasket, but not many of those around. I've only managed to pick up a couple of them off ebay and I am a parts hoarding nut case. ;)

Well it fixed it's self. I hate it when that happens. Never know when it will come back.

Id still check if not replace all your vacum lines and air lines though. Just as a precaution.
