Drove it home with no repairs! Needs a tune-up and some brake work! Runs pretty nice down the road and very lively! Only thing i can't figure out is the reverse lights work in 3rd and 4th but not reverse! Any ideas?

There are two switches on the trans, one is for the coasting richer circuit on the carb that comes on in 3rd and 4th, the other is the reverse switch. Sounds like you have the reverse light wiring plugged into the 3/4 switch, probably vice versa too. Prior owner probably had the trans out at some point and plugged them back in the wrong places.

In 1980 4x4s they also added a switch for 4x4 indicator on the dash, making three things you can wire to the wrong place.

I've got a gauge cluster from an 80 for when I get a 5spd put in my 79 4x truck so I can have the nifty little green light telling me I'm shifted in to 4lo/4hi.

Hey guys! Just wanted to clue you in on a sad story. I'm going to have to sell this truck. My 2001 Nissan Maxima just put me in a bind. The converters went bad and I didn't have the $$$$$ to fix it. The 3 converters cost $1500! And I'm a mechanic!!!! That's my discounted price!!! Long story short, don't have money to fix it and make payments. I traded it in on Labor Day for a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am. So I need a few extra $$$ to make my car payments and continue with my other project LUV my pastor gave me. I'll be posting more progress pics soon on the post in General LUV discussion, My project is finally started. Let me know if any of y'all are interested in the gray LUV. I'll be selling it after I fix a few things to make it safer to drive.

The body is very straight and except for the passenger side rocker panel, there isn't a dent on it. It runs ok right now, but I'm gonna tune him up and adjust the carb. The A/C belt is missing but the tensioner pulley is locked up. I'm gonna fix that and see if the A/C works. I was thinking of maybe around $1500. That's a BIG maybe. I really haven't decided on a price but after I get it right in a few weeks I'll be more than happy to listen to offers. Thanks!

Let me know if you got the gasket - I just know where you can get the windshield.

I can get gaskets locally through Windshield SOS. He got me a windshield for my 79 longbed which ALSO needs a windshield. Where is it I can get a windshield from? I would appreciate the tip.

BAD NEWS!!!!!! He overheated on me on Saturday. Blew a freeze plug out of the intake! The gauge didn't peg but got slightly above the safe mark and now it has a misfire. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do now.

I hope not but I just put new plugs in 2 weeks ago. I'll check to make sure it's not a blown intake gasket first
