ok. is it possible to put a smallblock with a auto tranny in a luv without modding the firewall? i was looking at Eric's pictures in the gallery and it doesnt look like he did anything to the firewall. im just really curious.

Whoever did mine didnt modify the firewall for the trans but I did have to beat it with a hammer to get some clearance for the HEI distributor cap. The points distributor I took out had plenty of room. I think it just depends on your motor mounts. Mine are home brewed and the engine sits back further than some Ive seen but the trans has plenty of clearance.

I also made my own motor mounts, and the motor sits forward more then it would if you buy the summitt brackets, and I did not have to beat pry, or anything, and everything fit great but the header on the driverside.

I didnt have to modify mine either and I made my own mounts and I think it sits to low because I got 1/16 of an inch between my 63/4 pulley and my front crossmember. 8O Make sure when you mock up your mounts you have everything so you dont have the same problems I do. :x

I did not change the firewall on my install. I did how ever, have to use a distributor that had points in it. I replaced the points with a Crane Electronic Ignition set up. I wanted my motor as far back a possible in the engine bay without firewall mods.

I bought block huggers and the one on the driver side rubs against the steering column

well I know others have used them, but I am not sure what they used for M/mounts??? If they used the summitt ones or what. Dennis has the hooker headers for his, and the one for the driverside is a 2 piece, that goes around the column. Maybe if I would of had the motor sit higher, I wouldnt of had that problem, but I thought it sat pretty good as it was.Image

I'm using Hooker mounts w/ Hooker headers. Just got mine mocked up. The Distributor hits a little if you turn it too far, so i beat the firewall just a little for more clearance. Just cleared the front cross member by about 3/4 inch. haven't tried the headers yet but looking good so far.

Farmer Joe 252, yea I am in Nampa. I was hoping to meet some of you guys out at Firebird sometime. I am a lot older than you young fellows but I thought I would say hi, and watch you race. I just cannot get the desire to keep working on my truck. I was hoping to have it finished this summer, but it is not going to happen. Talk to you soon.

The 2 piece one is on the pass side, and goes around the frame rail..

Cool. I am glad we don't have to beat the hell out of the firewall on this one. I am also using a th2004R, which looks alot slimmer than a th350, like around the bellhousing and the case n stuff. And I am not using a HEI distributor now, instead I am using a Mallory Unilite, which is tiny compared to that hunck of HEI.
