mzpeekabooicu: From the factory all 72-80 trucks had a strip of trim in the windshield gasket. 72-77 had a solid metal chrome piece, and 78-80 had this thing with foil under clear plastic. The foil/plastic stuff seems to rot away and look awful. If you have a solid rubber windshield gasket, then your windshield has been replaced (or at least the gasket) at some point in your truck's life.

The raingutter molding is the same way and the windshield trim. Pre 78 is solid metal chromed, 78-80 is cheaper stuff that didn't last.

geohum is right though, no bad years, just a lot of good ones

Probably a lot of 72 LUVs show a manufacture date in 1971. Assuming they still have the tag on the door that is. Just like today, you can buy a 2006 model year car/truck coming up in about sept/oct of 2005. They build them and sell them before the model year is officially there. Same is true of the rumor of 1978 4x4 models. They might have been built and sold in 78, but they are 79 model year trucks.

:silly:

Sorry... had to interject.

Back to the discussion. I seem to have an even year curse. I've had a 76, a 78, and an 80. No odd years yet.

My favorite was the 76, and I really don't know why.
