Well i was letting my motor warm up this morning and i heard a faint thunking. Well i still have 75psi of oil presure so its not rods or mains (right?) and it goes away after the truck warms up. It sounds like a top end knock or something. Im looking for ideas on what it could be, im thinking valves out of adjustment. The motor only has about 30,000miles on it (closer to 50,000 the way i drive though). It has always carried good oil presure (75psi when cold then it will drop to about 20psi when warm at idle and at 3,000rpm it will come back up to 75psi and stay there). Well thanks for the help guys.

not realy, i talked to my dad and he seems to think it might be piston slap. I have over reved the engine a few times so hes thinking a piston might have wallowed out the cylinder. :?

yeah thats another posibility but i thought a wrist pin would be constant. This sound goes away after the truck warms up.

im running a Napa/WIX so its not drain back issues.
And i just changed my oil and its still doing it, im going to adjust the valves and see if its that. The more i listen to it the more i think its valve train, or maybe its just wishfull thinking. But it cant hurt.

yeah, I just changed my oil and put a puralator on, but it doesn't have a diaphram in it or it's screwed up cause my dad doesn't have the same problem outta his truck.

well i found the noise. Its the back side of the timing chain hitting the guide. Its still tight on the tension side and its only barly hitting the guide, so thats what its there for right?
