I'm kinda with larp and geohum, nothing like a BFH to 'persuade' something loose. (Big F-ing Hammer) Add one hot wrench, and few things can hold up for long.

I like my 24 inch 1/2" breaker bar too though. It gets everything I need to break free on the LUV, and I have bigger stuff if I really need. Another fave is the 24 inch Crescent wrench. I use it for body work, bending stuff, or on rare occasions even turning big nuts and bolts.

I have a lot of little special use tools that I like as well. I like my little radioshack infrared thermometer for doing wierd engine diagnosis. Works great for checking T-stats still in the motor. Point at the t-stat housing right as it comes up to opening temp with your hand on the top rad hose. Feel warm suddenly on the hose, read the temp, and you know within a few degrees when the t-stat is opening up. Also works for finding cold spots in clogged radiators if you can can get a good clear shot.

If I had to have just one tool, it would have to be an adjustable end wrench of some kind though. I've got a cool old double ended crescent that I use all the time.

my 3/8:1/2(flip it over) drive pnumatic ratchet........ for automotive work.

if it came down to all the tools i own it would have to be my 100' 5/8" climbing rope and my harness.......they made me more money than any other tool and probably saved my life a few times.

Ir 1" impact 1400 pounds of torque it`s great for tightening valve cover bolts.
leathermans = handy little bastards
I can`t name just one that`s impossible I could go on for days.
the one tool I would love to have is a freakin garage workin in the dirt sucks plus when it`s 112 outside the metal on the cars and the wrenches are actually about 170.

Its the ultimate tool for working on the side of the road and you dont have to carry your whole tool box of sockets and end wrenchs around with you.

Personally, I'm fond of my 38 ton front end bucket loader.... Custom fabricated for an 8.2 v8 diesel, an 8-in-1 split bucket,60" tires and removable forks....

It it cant pick, tug, crush, move, or drive over anything... than it really isnt worth it.... LOL

sorry... that may be a bit out of place, but we use that thing and an old forklift for just about everything....
