I called beck arnley today to inquire about how much voltage their glow plugs for a 2.2 isuzu diesel. The part # is 176-1043 and the rep said these are rated for 5 volts. I have heard lots of folks say they will be ok to let them have 12v volts for a few seconds and perhaps this is true but the manufacturer sez 5 volts. I hope this helps you folks who wonder along with me. My volt meter sez I am getting 2 or 3 volts to my plugs in the wait period then droping to zero. I cant figure that out so I think I am going to bypass all the GMC controler stuff aod go with a manual intermitant switch with a 5 volt resistor in the 12 volt feed wire. I still wonder if my 1985 gmc s15 has a lift pump in the fuel tank going to the injector pump, I never hear a pump engage when I turn on the ignition?????? I have a little 12 volt helper pump and I thinks I will put it in the fuel line to see if that helps the slow to start cold problem.

12 volt GP would be better if you could find something that would fit. I think the early 6.2 GM diesels used 6 volt GP and later ones used 12v ones. A lot of people upgrade to the newer ones. A lift pump, fuel pump between the tank and the IP is a good thing IMHO. Some diesels use a lift pump, others don't. The way I look at is if the IP is getting a little weak on the suction side a lift pump would help it out. I am not sure how a luv, isuzu is piped on the fuel system., but I would think if it has a fuel return line back to the tank for extra fuel from the IP, it should work.

Some of the Luv diesel guys should jump in... I am just a wanabe but I have a lot of experance with other diesels.

Opps I see you have a s15... Wish I could find one. Use the T5 tranny then.

I have a 1985 S15 here for parts that my motor came from, and there is no lift motor in the tank, just the electric one in the engine compartment with a heater.
As my Sonoma originally came with a fuel-injected 4.3, I left the fuel pump in the tank. It doesn't put out too much pressure at the IP, presumably partially due to the thicker fuel it has to pump. It's been pumping it for over 2 years and 40,000+kms, so it doesn't mind the diesel fuel.
Mine too seems to have this cold start issue. It starts for a second, then quits, unless I give it fuel. It will do this for a few seconds, then it is all right. Only on cold starts. I put some of the blame on the fact it has 500,000 kms on it, and no doubt it's a bit tired 8O . Some day I'll take the time to investigate it. For now, I'm going to live with it.
