hey guys i need some help. i picked up this 350 block and i need to know which heads to put on. so it has these pistons in it with a ever so slightly dome maybe the hight of a nickel. it has the number " TRW 216-99" on the inside and 3959456 on the outside of the piston. ive been told by one person that there 11:1 with 64cc heads and by other people that there oem flat top pistons. so i dont know whether to put the 75cc heads i got on it or the 64cc heads i got on it. i wanna still be able to run pump gas. if anyone can help me out that would be great thanks alot

well i can say now that the pistons you have arent 11:1. my friend has an 11:1 motor and the domes on his pistons were as tall as a dime standing up.

but about the heads. pee_roys has a 355 with flat tops and 64cc heads and he running about 9.0 to 9.5:1 compression. runs fine on 87. so i would say go with the 64cc heads.

maybe he's saying the dome is the height of a nickel as in the nickel is standing straight up.

from what i've been able to find that part number/casting number piston is a TRW made OEM piston for the high performance small blocks, namely the LT1 in the 3rd generation Corvette. I checked this on corvetteforums.com and a couple of other older chevy car sites. If they are they are the 11:1 pistons affectionately called pop-up pistons. I'd check into the block and crank casting numbers and see what engine you have there. Might be a built up run of the mill block but it might be a bit more... and also if they are the 72 cc heads might be the way to go with pump gas

ok. i got the pic. yeah there are domed but like you said the dome only comes up about as high as a nickle laying down. and with the big valve relief, that will make up the difference.

a true TRW flat top with 4 valve reliefs in a 350 with 0 deck height and a 64cc head should be up towards 10.0:1.
a bump like the thickness of a nickel (probably around .100") would put you around 10.65:1

the dome, deck height, gasket etc really needs to be measured to be sure
but imo a dome of about .200" would be 11:1 with a 64cc, zero'd 350 block

as far as the dome the height of a nickel standing up. well that would be about a .750" (3/4") dome which would put it up in the neighborhood of 14.0:1 . my Chevy II motor had a .750" bump. it came in at 13.9 AFTER i flycut and detailed the crap out of chambers and pistons.

btw this is all static compression numbers we're talking about. this all goes out the window if you're running a bigger cam with a lot of overlap. I'd be interested to know what cam you are running too

you should be fine on pump gas with those pistons and 64 cc head it sounds like they are the .100 domes to me. especially if you plan on running head gaskets like the felpro blue they increase your deck volume alot . as for cam that depends on what you plan on doing with it . street ,drag only, whether you have to get the sniffer test etc.

Hey dont forget to check your piston to valve clearance, if you forgot how to do that, check out http://www.rehermorrison.com/techTalk/41.htm

Derek is right about that. Another thing you can do is call the piston manufacturer. They can give you all the information you need, if you tell them exactly what you have, or plan to use.

that cam sounds like a good choice for a 10-11:1 motor if the camel humps have been ported. if not then its a little too much cam for the motor. the cam will sound nice and will work but not to its full potential without some medium to aggressive porting to the heads. you will also need a looser stall converter to make full use of that cam.
