well i guess i ll post this but yeah i ll share

not expecting sympathy but for you all to learn from me and others

the last two weeks ago at work begining of morning i fired up the 12'

metal shear i had a backstop set up for lots of 10" long pieces to shear

i had a bad gut feeling about rapid firing the machine and as i was feeding

the material through after about a dozen

the next one i fed through the cotton part of glove got caught on burred

edge of metal and my left index finger got underneath the dogs of the

shear which hold the metal in place with 80,000psi

so it felt like a hammer hit it at first then i realized it couldnt have been a

hammer i guess it was so mangled up they couldnt save the first joint


its still sore as a matter of fact

but i just hope that none of you go through an amputation even though

they pay you money for lost limb it just isnt worth it and to those that

have i feel your pain

but the reason i wrote this was for you all who work with your hands

the title says it all ,it doesnt pay to go lightning quick

never lost a digit but I feel you man,prolonged 3rd degree burn from a bucket of hot tar... you are so right about not being in a hurry. If the foreman tells you to hurry,find another foreman.

Dang that bites. At least it was only part of your finger and not the whole or worse your whole hand. Hope you got some good pain killers.

I know a guy that crashed his motorcycle on a dirt track, and as he was crashing, his finger got caught in the sprocket/chain....lost that one.

well i wont post pics on here but i can send some when i take them i didnt get one of when it first happend it was pretty bad like evrything inside was exposed the doctor couldnt believe how i wasnt really hurting i had to wait 5 hrs before surgery without numb that kinda sucked but they put an iv on me and i was out and woke up it was cool weird feeling but i ll send them to you on sunday i ll be gone til then a family reunion

luckly w/ all the stupid crap ive done over the years ive never lost a finger. i am missing the tip of my left thumb from a filet knife and my right middle finger has been broke, smashed, cut and burnt. (guess i shouldnt flip it up so often ) and i got a few intresting scars on my hands...like the one frome useing a 4 1/2" grinder w/o a guard.

my grandpa worked in a wood chipper mill his whole life and i think when he died he only had 4 complete fingers.

i feel your pain man and wish you a fast recovery.

That happened to a dude I worked with same kind of deal. Only he had some thick plate and was using the hook from the overhead crane on the ass end, and he didn't realize how close he was to the egde of the shear, nor that he had the backend an inch or so off the table until the dogs came down and left him minus most of 4 fingers.

Guess you'll have to get special made gloves now...
