I just purchased a rear end out of a 64 chevy nova.. Anyone have any information? I assume it's limited slip because of the old spinning the tire trick, the other side spun the opposite direction. But then again, I've also heard that doesn't work. What gears does it have stock? Are there disk brake kits? It's four lug, and the vega rotors I am going to put on it are four, so I might stick with that. Are four lug rims as hard to find as the six?

i don't know much about anything but the 4 lugs aren't hard to find. the problem with 4 lugs are they usually come in a smaller car like small toyota's and hondas and plymouths. just they usuallly come in 13 inches, but that's all i know.

the best way to find stuff out is to pull the diferential cover. If theres spiders in the carier then its an open diff. Also on the ring gear somewhere there should be numbers stamped. Thos will be the date of manufacture and the gear ratio. The gear ratio will be expressed as number of pinion gear teeth then number of ring gear teeth. Devide those two and thats the gear ratio. Those numbers should be the last in the string.

its most likely a peg leg (non posi) if the wheels spin opposite. they should go same direction. its also a 4 lugger which is also less likely to have a posi. the factory posi carriers are getting harder to come by these days. probably going to have to go aftermarket. I ended up skipping all that and putting a $70 mini spool in mine.

my guess is a 3.08 gear in it.

if its a 4 lug it probably came from a 6 cylinder car too. i dont know if it would hold up to v8 power for long.

are the 4 luggers still a 10 bolt? I'm not even sure because I've never had a 4 lug Nova before but anyway the 10 bolts from the early nova will hold up to a decent amount of power with an aftermarket gear. There are a couple of II's around here in the 9's on stock axles with C-Clips still in them.

Ok, ya lost me with the C clips and the peg leg.. But anyhow, yeah, it's a ten bolt.. I got a garantee on it, so I might just take it back for a refund and look for something out of the Z28 I have my eye on.. Would have to cut it down, but it's better than having to pay for the entire aftermarket rear

Thats not the best rear to use, and it wont fit very well under your LUV.. Swap it for an S-10 rear and be done with it lol

the 64 10bolt is stronger than what I assume is a late model Z28 10bolt but if you're going to narrow something down then defiinitely do a 9
