I think I may have lost it this time!!!

here is the idea of mine:

take one Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 (245hp,300+ftlbs tq, 20-23mpg)
add a 5-speed from a 3.4L equiped Taco and Yota t-case
stick the whole works into a 1980 Luv 4x4

Have I lost my marbles or what!

That would be pretty cool and very unusual but unless you have a donor Tundra already, I would suggest using a TBI or TPI Small Block Chevy motor with a late model truck 5 speed and t-case and heres why...

--SBC to Luv mounts, headers etc are available fairly cheap

--Cost of the eng/trans/t-case should be signifigantly lower than the tundra parts (unless you already have a donor truck)and should be much easier to wire up

--With only minor engine mods, you could exceed the Toyota HP/Torque rating...not lose any reliability...and still maintain that MPG rating using the 5 speed

Just my 2 Cents :D

I could do that but then I would be like every one else...not that there's anything wrong with a SBC or anything, it's just that I would like to be different. That and i like Toyota. Right now this is just an idea i have no clue if it will be come reality or not, just an idea

well if you live somewhere where those supras are reall popular, theres alway someone that rolls one or wrecks one. you just gotta finda the wrecking where they get tossed. that would be a sweet swap though. a 2JZ with a t76 turbo and a 6 speed. daaaaang

A Supra engine would be sweeeeeet!!!!! but I think there might be problems trying to fit a strait 6 into a luv. i know of a websit where this guy has done supra engine swaps on things like toyota pickups and 4runners, maybe it's posible

I can understand wanting to be different, but doing an engine swap to a vehicle takes a lot of work. If you know all about how to make all of your own mounts for engine, trans, and radiator, and everything you want will fit, and you can do all the electronics, go for it. I'm doing the one that Ben has put on this site because everything has already been done and tested, plus everything is much cheaper.
