I have to change the starter on my truck. I am not a mechanic, but can do the work. My problem is with the wires that lead from the starter. There are two power lines, but there is also a smaller gauge wire that is merely dangling with one end exposed and I am unable to figure out where it is supposed to attach. Wiring diagrams don't help, the ones in any of the manuals I have.

Can anyone tell me what the extra wire is for? Is it ground (earth)? Where is it supposed to go?

Thanks,
Eric

If you look closely at it, one of the large leads should go from the starter motor to the solenoid. You only need to disconnect the small wire and the large wire that goes to the battery terminal.

What I am trying to figure out...is where in the truck the small wire connects to, as mine is hanging loose from the starter. Just to clarify.

Thanks

The small wire should be the wire from the start position on the ignition switch by the steering column that goes to the starter solenoid on top of the starter.
