My engine is stock and 70-75 is pretty easy.I did put an MSD 6a and super conductor wires, and I copied something called a "turbonator" not to jack your thread but what is the red line? my tach is aftermarket and of course there is no line. I try to keep it under three grand. there's a web site for that gimmick sorry I could be wrong on the spelling.

Mine is stock and my tach says 3000 at 60mph. I can go faster if I have to but kinda sounds like a diesel at that speed so I just hold 60.

I have had my '79 at about 75 on the interstate flats before. It seemed like it could go a little more yet.

I'v maxed out my speedo, course that was going downhill, but 75-80 on flat land w/topper, don't know what it'll do 300lbs lighter

If you can get your hands on a rear-end out of an automatic transmission equipped Luv..it will change your rear gears from 456 to 410. That helps bring up your top-end speed and your gas mileage. Some even had better gears than that.

And if you can get your hands on a 5-speed transmission. - that will help too. I'm not sure what Izusu vehicles you can get them from that will fit and bolt up but it would certainly be worth your time to check it all out.

Then you will have a Luv built the way it should have been built in the first place...IMHO.

Lots of stuff will fit on a Luv with a little modifying...do a search here and you will get all the details...somebody posted a lot of information about all of this stuff a while back.

if any one has any info on a 5-speed trans that bolts up i would be interested in knowing that. Been thinking about trying to get one of those any way.

when I traveled to Louisiana from Arkansas there was a straight stretch of 4 miles thru the soggy bottoms. It brought out the idiot in me. the 75luv was up to 85 in 2 miles but would take another mile to get to 90 then hit the brakes for the stop sign. Not too bright since this was deer country. With the 4-11 rear end thats about 5400rpm. that was in 1988. Engine was toasted in 99 and not driven since. Now putting in a 4.3tbi/5sp.

80 4x4. I have ran out of speedo. tach over 6000RPM. The engine was really singing. Not bad for 277,000 miles!

mine lasted till 1999 and 276k then blew a freeze plug on an autumn day. Pulled the head and saw aluminum melted to the sides of the cylinder walls. Had the cracks in the head welded but it was burnt toast. Parked in 1999. 4.3 going in soon.

Yea I know. I was just kidding around.
I do hate the people that speed through my neighborhood though. I always think "you'll be on the blvd. in 1 min. and you can go fast out there." I guess they don't think about kids cats dogs or whatever could come out in front of them around the houses.

Well my truck is a diesel (bout' 60-70hp in my truck) and it doesn't take much to get my truck to 65 at the least (on a slightly downhill entrance ramp to HWY) , I only need about 9-13 sec. to get 65+ (i'll clock'er tomorrow though),then i've gone 80 b4 in my truck but only in a hurry.

I thought i saw a chart on this site that showed the speed/Rpm in the different gears for a chevy luv, but i wanna get a lower gear rear for my truck to get some speed outta my truck :P and when i do i'm getting my exhaust 2'' from my manifold back throught a glasspack
