Factory manuals show up often on ebay. The haynes shop manual can be found at most auto parts stores and really does a pretty good job on the LUV, compared to some other vehicles they do a book for.

the haynes manual is o.k. but some details are hard to see, the chilton is a little more thorough I think the luv portion is now only available in a compilation . Just the 79-82 jcwhitney cat. # SD167026P my catalog is a year old so that might change. the factory manual sounds like the real deal tho

Yeah nothing beats the factory manual for dead on info about each year. The Haynes/Clymer/Chiltons all read about the same for me (and share most of their pictures) The Clymer has a bit better info on the later years and 4x4 stuff though. The problem with a factory manual for me is that I really almost need every year. I have 9 trucks, all series 5-10 and there are subtle differences here and there between the years. The generic books cover series 1-10 and some info on 11 and 12.

If you go looking for a factory book, be aware that they get listed incorrectly all the time. The cover of the book lists the series number, not the year. The series is one less than the year up to 77, then switches to match the year from there out. So 1972-77 are series 1-6, 1978-82 are series 8-12, and there is no series 7. I often see series 2 books listed as 1972 and so forth.

eBay or Yahoo Auctions. They had some up there the last time I checked. I would love to get a diagramming tool to see what engines would snap into the chassis with the tranny 8-) I wouldn't need ta guess.
