Anyone notice that the wheelbase in the front of the 81-82 is wider than the wheel base in the back of the truck? Is there some purpose for this or do I just have some sort of lemon of a truck

my 80 is the same way.... i recently replaced the front end links and such and tried to use a stringline to align it enough to get to the shop and i noticed the rear track is about an inch and a half narrower than the front.

most chevy trucks are this way.

my luv, my K5 the newer trucks too.

I guess they want to make sure that if the front wheels fit, that the rear ones will too.

you can grab some wheel spacers if it really bothers you that much

you're referring to track width. wheelbase is from front wheel to back wheel. yes, its normal. Chevys are just like that

You see wider front track width on vehicles that are front-heavy. Front-heavy vehicles tend to understeer. Widening the front track width partially compensates for this tendency.

I experimented with spacers on the back of mine in the past. It looked better but handled worse, so I took them out.
