Trying to remove the pitman arm from the centerlink.. Unfortunately, once the pin is out of the retaining nut, the bolt spins with it. The other end of the bolt on the back side of the center link end seems to be covered by some sort of cap. My question is, how do I get that bolt out of there so I can take the pitman arm off? My steering box is fried

Ok, I'm stumped. After my problem mentioned earlier, I went back to trying to get the pitman arm off the splines. Went out and bought a pully removing tool and tried it. It's too weak to do the job. Even after a full coat of WD-40 and several attempts, the tool would apply plenty of pressure, then one of the arms would just slip off. I've got to change out this gearbox, but not having any luck. Any ideas?

Hi Darc,

Yep, I had to pull mines off and it was a bear. I ran into the same problems you are experiencing. I measured the pitman arms width and searched for a "good" pitman arm pulley that had he necessary jaw gap so it wouldn't slip. It took a while to find one. I would recommend to get a good quality pulley with a full replacement guaranty, I actually broke one using a cheater bar on my wrench.

I placed the pulley on the pitman and put some heavy duty pressure on it and took my torch and heat up the joint area and it broke free.

I hope this helps

Thanks man! Might have to go out and get a better torch lol. Where did you find that specific puller, if you don't mind me asking? I've been worrying about breaking that one, and the warranty is lifetime, but it has one of those "intended use" clauses. Cheater bar breakage probably isn't covered
