i don't know the legality of it either, but i prefer the vertical next to the shock... seen a lot of custom bike running that and it looks the better to me

Most choppers have a verticle on the left side. Thats how most of the kits are made because chopper exhaust usually both exit on the right side. I think it would be cool to be different and have it on the right side. dont mount it too low though or it will scrape if you corner the bike hard, especially if its horizontal side mount.

I would also remove the tail light which would clean up the fender and mount the tailight on the side over the plate too because the tail light is also your license plate light. So depending on your local laws, if its legal to move your plate to the side, you will have to illuminate it somehow too.

well the reason im thinking of the right side is b/c the stupid chain guard is there on the left. i dont like the horzional at all dont even know why i took a pic of it

i looked up the laws in ohio and all it says is it has to be displayed in the rear....pretty open if ya ask me

the taillight will someday be replaced w/ a smaller "catseye" light and for lighting up the plate i was gonna use those little LED lighted plate bolts.

 i DID think of that. was gonna mount it on the back of the seat. even took a pic. but i didnt relaay like the way it broke up the fender plus it may rub the passengers butt

I will try to take a pic of my bike this weekend but I basically have the set up you are talking about. I have a left side low mount with an LED bar above and the LED bolts on the bottom. cops kinda gave me a no-no look because the LED license plate bolts are blue and VERY bright. CA laws say you can only have red lights facing rear while driving. My bike has a cat eye tail light (stock) in its stock location. I also made some custom bullet LED turn signals for pretty cheap.

Some of the messengers on sport bikes find the space above the wheel, sorta in front of the tail light but under the seat also, seems cool but might get unwanted attention

I know what you're talking about.... not legal in CA. I think thats part of the fender eliminator kit. check local laws first. they nail sportbikers for that around here. my friend has that setup on his ZX12 and it looks pretty sick but a couple weeks ago he came over a big hill, got a little air and came down, compressed the suspension and smashed his plate. It does look really cool on a sport bike though.

Looks good! Now just fab up a flap that normally rests on top of the rear fender, but it able to flip down to cover the licence plate. That way you can escape the crime scene undetected..... 8) 8) .........
