ok, so my one day, maybe within the next year or two, im going to sell my luv to get the car ive been dreaming of since 3rd grade, also something more practical. if you have any ideas on the value of your luv, could you post it along with the information?

mine is a 1980 4x4, has 21,600 original miles, brand new tires and wheels (less than 300 miles on them), no body rust, $800 paint job (porsche paint- red) , $400 sound system (200 watts alpine deck/pioneer speakers) custom bucket seats, canopy, all original paperwork (by miles its still under warranty, but haha i think its been a little longer than three years for time) and yeah i think thats about all worth listing... and im thinking i could get somewhere around 5 thousand, ive been offered that much, but i think i could get more. what do you think? if you have any thoughts please post them, as long as they actually have something to do with what im asking. my car domain site is this if your want to see pics

Well mine is worth at least $8000. Yours however is worth about $250. But I'll gladly take it off your hands for what it's worth... :D  8O j.k. buddy.

:shocked!: :shocked!:

With a Maaco re-paint? I'd jump all over that offer if I were you.

Just curious why you consider your Luv not practical?

Hey Adem, is that a whole new dash or just a cap? I went to your cardomain and it looks like a whole new dash. The truck looks great you've done a good job on it. Ron. 8)

i consider my luv not practical because it gets bad gas mileage for a car that small, its not safe as safe as i'd like (ive been hit by a car before. on my bike. i know what its like and i know waht i want to have between me and the other car. an air bag would be one thing). it is too small, limited off road, (low to the ground, bad approach and departure angles,i dont want to scratch it). i'd like to be able to fit more than one other person in my car, and a car with power steering, a/c and possibly a better ride. the negative comment about the maaco paint is amazingly ignorant. if you have ever entered a maaco shop (which i'm sure most who criticize it have not), you will find that they do exceptional work for the money. will your paint job suck if you pay $250 for it? of course... tahts why it costs $250. if your willing to actually fork out a decent amount of money, its well worth it. my friend had his viper rt-10 completely repainted at maaco a few years back, and it looks perfect... a viper isnt exactly a easy car to paint. after my car was finished, the owner was not happy with the job, and had my entire car re-prepped and re-painted , as to make sure the finish cured correctly, for free. if i find any defects in the next 4 years, or it so much as fades, it is 100% covered under warrenty. i may sound like i'm trying to sell them , but im a customer for life after seeing the work they did on my truck. as for the other comments, that is the orignal dash, and there are a some cracks in it not shown in the picture. thanks for the feedback guys.

ideed they are good... that's who painted mine, they filled all the rust holes, dings and scratches, painted it with urethane paint and gave my a 4 yr. warranty and all for $500... not too shabby...

Relax man, i'm not trying to knock your hustle. You asked for thoughts and opinions did you not? The "quality" of a paint job is in the eye of the beholder and that can usually only be judged in person.

As a matter of fact, I am a semi-skilled painter and I even worked at a Maaco (not spraying) for a while several years ago. In that time, by my standards, I never saw one paint job I would even call "decent" let alone "exceptional" come out the front door, even the ones who paid for the "higher end" job.

Maaco by and large is a cheap production paint facility for people who don't want to spend what it takes for a quality job, or someone who just wants the car to look better to sell etc. However they are franchises in which policies and practices vary slightly by location. With that in mind, perhaps your local store is more quality minded than the one here.

I'll pose this question to the board members......Has anyone had a vehicle painted by Maaco? If so, what location? Were you happy with the results?

several years ago i had my '66 tempest painted by a maaco in LA. i did the bodywork and basic prep. i took it to them and got it back the next afternoon. there was some orange peel around the tailights but otherwise the job looked pretty danged good. i paid 217.99 out the door and would spend it again with those particular folks.

IMHO.. most folks are looking for a good solid paint job and can't or won't spend 2-3k just for paint when for the average daily driver a maaco job is just fine. having said that, if i had a vehicle i was going to enter in car shows or do a no kidding 100% correct restoration on, i would spend the moeny for a high dollar paint job, but only for a show quality car

like a said above i have had my truck painted by them.

And i'm pretty satisfied with the results... they did miss 2 holes (from my 20'' neon i had) on my ceiling

there's only 2 panels however that have orange peel on them and i plan on using some polishing compound of somesort to fix it... (the paint will be ready to polish in the next week or so since it's been 6 months since it was first painted)

Also i got my truck painted at the Winston-Salem location in North Carolina, off of Peters-Creek

I used Macco in La Habra Ca. for my wifes 88 accord. I got exactly what I paid for. The quality of paint and body work could have been better and could have been much worse. For what I paid I got a darn good deal. I used them because a local body shop that did a little fender work on it ( insurance said I had to use this guy), recommended Macco over 1 day or Earl Schieb.

adem just wondering why you would want to sell your truck, you can still get another ride,i have several 4x4 toyota trucks motorcycles and a v-8 luv.i probably have 4 to 5,000 into my luv not counting any of my time, its probably only worth around i would think 2,500 maybe 3,000 but i wouldn't take ten thousand its not for sale, never will be. i figure one of my boys may want to play with it in a few years.my truck also has a maaco paint job ,shop in east texas for 200.00 who can complain good job for the money.

Very well put, Roadshow and I agree 100% with that. What I'm saying is that when someone wants over $5000 for a stock Luv, low mileage or not, They are asking for a show/collector car price in which case the paint job should be darn near if not perfect.

Sorry Adem....I did not mean to turn your thread into a Maaco quality survey  . Let's get back to the topic at hand.

I would not be surprised if your $5000 offers dried up if you accepted them. I'm not saying I don't think your truck is worth that, it really looks like it is, but when the cash hits the barrel you would be very fortunate to get $3000 out of any stock luv. Even with the low miles and good condition, the general market just doesn't have much demand for luvs.

On the paint issue, a Maaco paintjob is probably far better than the stock paint job. As my dad says about older factory paint jobs: "They spill a little paint on it" The factory paint is usually not perfect even at the showroom.

Low Retail Average Retail High Retail
Base Price

$1,500 $3,525 $4,500

Options

4 Wheel Drive $325 $550 $700

TOTAL PRICE $1,825

I would give you the $5,000 for it if I had a garage to keep it in as my toy and to load her up on a trailer and take her to shows, but my wife blew it.

First of all I apologise for making the first funny on your topic. It seems everyone followed suit and it got out of hand.

Second of all, I paid $3000 for mine. I think now it was too much but oh well. I think Ben paid $1500 for his white one. At least thats what I saw it for sale for. ( wish I had got it to. It's clean.)
I think even with your low miles ( which is awsome) I would be pretty happy to take $5000. I don't think you'll get any more than that. As much as we luv our Luvs around here, they are still just old worn out ,obsolete mini trucks to most people. I mean don't count on them ever being true high value classics like a Mustang or Camero. If you find some else into Luvs and willing to pay top $, I'd take it.

I had my 72 GMC 1 ton on full coverage at the Auto club, and the lady put it to me like this, "To you and other people that are into these trucks are the only ones that think they are worth any thing.($6000). To us and most people, it's just an old truck($1500). So go minimum insurance because that's all we are going to give you if something happens."

Kind of like an ugly baby. If it's yours ,the ugly is blind to your eyes, but everyone else says, "What an ugly kid!!" 8O :D
