i know the easiest way to find em is to look under the older F-100s and 150s. Its realy easy to tell if its a 9" or an 8.8" (the 8.8 has a removeable diff cover).

As far as getting a used 9" I think you would be better off to get one already narrowed. By the time you get one narrowed, and shortened/ or new axles, you might as well get one from ebay or buy an aftermarket.
I got lucky, there was one in my maroon truck when I got it....

I got to go with diarmadhim. It will be a longshot finding a rear end that will suit your application. Going for an aftermarket might be the better way to go. I got great deal on a used, narrowed 9" assy for my truck that was in pieces. After getting drums, axle bearings with seals, brake kits and shoes, smaller relocated perches and a 3rd member rebuild, the cost was just over 1000.00. What sold me on taking on the project was the fact that it had 2.75 to 1 gears. Unless you have an inside line on getting a rear end rebuit and narrowed with a gear ratio that you are looking for, It would be better to get one made brand new from the ground up.

i assume that your doing a v8 swap. what kind of power is this thing going to be putting out. if its like anything under 350 you can just get an s10 rearend and put that under it. the s10 rearend is a direct fit in the luv.
just my .02

Not if you setup the width to what it needs to be.

If your asking if you can install at stock 9 inch then I would say no. LUV's are pretty narrow compared to vehicles that came with 9 inches. The wheels would stick out a bunch. Anyone have a hard figure?

If I remember right the narrowest stock 9 was like 57". about 4" wider. So technically if you got one you could bolt it up and run it... you'd just need really skinny wheels 8)

could always get a toyota 8" from a 4x4 -- 6 lug to match your luv, all kinds of gear and posi options available and beefy axle shafts. should take 350hp in a street setting with an upgraded carrier(like a detroit truetrac).

it was also found under some 2wd toyota trucks with a 5 on 4.5 lug pattern
