As some of you know, i have a driveline problem that was diagnosed to the fact that my pinion angle and tailshaft angle are way out of alignment. To correct the problem, i need to change the pinion angle by reworking the leaf spring pads. On the internet, i found some "clamp on" type leaf spring pads. It looks like a fast way of getting the job done but, i know nothing of these clamps. This is the first i've ever known of such a clamp. Has anyone ever used such a setup on a car or truck? Do they work? Will they handle a hard launch? Any info would be of great help. Thanks...

how far off is your pinnon angle. because they sell shims to change the angle at most performance and some auto parts stores. ive seen up to 8degree shims. as far as clamp on spring pads go i`ve never heard of them. i wouldn`t think clamps alone on the spring pads would keep it located properly. i would think the rear end would twist in the clamps pretty easy. later terry

I considered getting angled shims but i dont think the pin in the leaf springs would be tall enough to go into the alignment hole in the pad. I dont know if i can replace the pin with a longer one. Plus the pads on the ford 9" axle are about 1/4" off center on bolt sides. It was a pain to get them to line up. With the clamp on style axle pads i could kill 2 birds with one stone. Fix the pinion angle and properly set the axle on the springs, all without needing a welder. I still need to think this over.

you could use the clamp on's get every thing rite, take it for a test drive to prove the vibraition is gone then take it to a welder [muffler shop] and have it welded ,its a great idea!!!!

Also im running a Ford 9" differential. I tried measuring the diameter of the axle tubes @ the leaf spring pads using a dial caliper. The caliper bottomed out before the jaws fully reached the width of the tube. It's cold and windy outside so that task was quickly haulted. The clamp on style pads are for 3" axle tubes. Are Ford Axles 3" in dia? If i were to get weld on type pads i'd go with the 3" but the clamp on type must be a secure fit. I'd like to be sure before i commit to the order. BTW, The eng/trans angle is 2.5 degrees down at the tailshaft and the pinion angle is 5 degrees pointing down for a total misalignment of 7.5 degrees.
